10/25/99 - San Clemente, CA PRO FORMULA MAZDA DRIVER TAYLOR FLETCHER WINS USAC FORMULA RUSSELL CHAMPIONSHIP RACE AT SEARS POINT RACEWAY

San Clemente, California - October 25, 1999

Taylor Fletcher won the United States Auto Club "USAC" Formula Russell Championship race on Sunday, October 24, 1999, at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California. After taking pole position, Fletcher brought the 24-car field up to speed and took the lead to never relinquish it. Bullet Racing Team driver Taylor Fletcher was quoted as saying, "It was a very close race initially, and I knew that any mistake on my part would cause me to lose a number of grid positions. We spent the first six or eight laps turning qualifying lap times so that we could put a space between our car and the rest of the field. We were then able to conserve tires from that point through the end of the race by just running hard but not quite as fast as the initial laps."

Fletcher was invited to run the USAC Formula Russell Championship Race two weeks prior to the event. The event included two days of testing at the world famous Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California, and culminated with the race on Sunday.
